Case Study: ATLO Software achieves secure, cloud-based inmate training and improved certification outcomes with Sophos UTM on AWS

A Sophos Case Study

Preview of the ATLO Case Study

Sophos Enables ATLO Software to Launch Groundbreaking, evolutionary Workforce Development

ATLO Software, a Louisiana-based provider of turnkey virtual learning environments running on AWS, was commissioned to deliver secure coursework and testing for inmates so they could earn degrees and professional certifications. The main challenge was preventing inmates from accessing unauthorized web content while allowing only the ATLO portal and licensed training materials; to solve this, ATLO deployed Sophos UTM on AWS for content control and website filtering.

Sophos UTM on AWS delivered layered security—including next‑generation firewall, IPS, web application firewall, secure web proxy and VPN—plus granular browsing controls and reporting, which ATLO integrated with its platform. The Sophos-secured solution reduced IT burden and costs for correctional facility teams, improved uptime, enabled terminals to expand (including three facilities in Mississippi), and helped many inmates earn industry credentials (e.g., master mechanic and HiSET), leading to better post-release employment outcomes and stronger rehabilitation prospects.
