Case Study: Universidad del Pacífico achieves proactive, ransomware-resistant endpoint security with Sophos Intercept X Advanced

Peruvian University shifts from a reactive to a proactive approach to security with Sophos Intercept X Advanced.

Universidad del Pacífico, a Lima-based university serving about 3,800 users, was overwhelmed by ransomware and zero‑day threats that outpaced its signature-based antivirus and strained a small security team. Seeking an automated, non‑disruptive solution that would integrate with existing tools, IT Director Ugo Ojeda and partner Yachay selected Sophos and deployed Sophos Intercept X Advanced (including Sophos Intercept X Advanced for Server).

Sophos implemented 2,800 Intercept X Advanced endpoint licenses and 250 server licenses, managed centrally via the cloud Sophos Central platform, using deep learning, CryptoGuard ransomware protection, and built‑in EDR plus SophosLabs threat intelligence. The deployment enabled the university to move from reactive to proactive security—blocking ransomware and unknown malware, prioritizing and reducing alert workload, speeding incident investigations and resolution, and giving staff time to focus on strategic initiatives.
