North of England Commissioning Support consolidates cyber security to better and more easily protect existing and new customers

North of England Commissioning Support (NECS), a Durham-based NHS commissioning support organisation managing 13,500 endpoints, needed to consolidate a patchwork of inherited IT security solutions into a single, scalable platform that could be quickly rolled out to new customers. They turned to Sophos, deploying products including Sophos Advanced Endpoint Protection, Intercept X, Sophos Unified Threat Management and Mobile Device Management to meet Cyber Essentials Plus standards and simplify management.

Sophos (with partner ITHealth) migrated eight different antivirus environments into a unified Sophos console, deployed Intercept X across the estate ahead of the WannaCry outbreak, and now manages UTMs in GP surgeries plus MDM for ~600 devices. The rollout is 99% complete, delivering stronger ransomware protection, easier centralized management and cost-effective, easy-to-use security — enabling NECS to scale services and offer better value to its NHS customers.
