A Sophos Case Study
MassBay Community College, a Massachusetts community college serving about 4,000 students and 500 staff across three campuses, faced increasing malware attacks, student piracy complaints and the need to strengthen FERPA compliance while keeping a small IT team focused on network operations. After finding their Symantec endpoint deployment insufficient, MassBay engaged Sophos and its solutions—including the Sophos Complete Security Suite, Sophos UTM, Sophos Mobile Control, Sophos Email Protection and Sophos Encryption—to deliver a more comprehensive security posture.
Sophos deployed its Complete Security Suite to almost 500 endpoints alongside UTM appliances, Enterprise Console management, Mobile Control and email/web filtering, with encryption rolling out for finance and HR. The result: a significant drop in malware invasions, a rapid clean-up of a virus that Symantec had missed, no cease‑and‑desist piracy notices in the past year, centralized mobile device control (including the ability to “brick” lost iPads), stronger FERPA compliance and reduced admin workload—demonstrating measurable operational and legal improvements driven by Sophos.
