How the University of San Carlos secures 2 campuses, 2,500 employees, and 27,000 students

The University of San Carlos in Cebu City, serving over 27,000 students, faced frequent security incidents (including website hacks), costly and hard‑to‑maintain legacy solutions, aging Windows XP workstations with limited memory, and bandwidth constraints that hampered security. To address these challenges the university selected Sophos, deploying Sophos UTM appliances and Sophos Endpoint Protection Advanced.

Sophos implemented UTM appliances (Sophos UTM 425, UTM 525 and SG 650) across campuses and rolled out Sophos Endpoint Protection Advanced to 2,800 workstations. The unified Sophos platform delivered centralized policy enforcement and web filtering, improved visibility of web and LAN traffic, better bandwidth performance (UTM hardware provides firewall throughput in excess of 23 Gbps), reduced endpoint memory requirements and a lower total cost of ownership—resulting in stronger protection, fewer management headaches and improved productivity.
