A Sophos Case Study
East Lycoming School District, a K–12 district in Pennsylvania serving about 1,600 students, faced a major security and scalability challenge after issuing roughly 1,500 school iPads: its existing firewall and Cisco wireless controllers could not reliably support the surge in devices while meeting mandated web-filtering requirements. Working with partner iCorps Technologies, the district evaluated and selected Sophos, deploying Sophos UTM and Sophos Access Points to replace the legacy infrastructure.
Sophos implemented a Sophos UTM 550 appliance and 130 Sophos 150 AP100c access points, delivering centralized management, stronger web filtering and application control, and significant cost savings. As a result, the network comfortably handled peak loads (11% utilization with more than 2,800 devices), filtered over a million web requests and blocked 200,000 unauthorized packets plus multiple intrusion and spam attempts before lunchtime, while making it easier for staff to identify threats quickly and maintain compliance—outcomes credited to Sophos’s scalable, easy-to-manage solution.
