Albury City Council - Customer Case Study

Albury City Council, a regional NSW local government, was struggling with a major malware and spam problem: during an evaluation to replace its primitive anti‑virus the council was hit by more than 1,000 occurrences of three Microsoft Word macro viruses and was suffering large volumes of spam that hurt productivity. Albury turned to Sophos for protection, adopting Sophos Anti‑Virus and Sophos PureMessage and later implementing Sophos EM Library for automated update distribution.

Sophos delivered a layered solution—endpoint anti‑virus, automated EM Library updates (up to 24 times a day) and PureMessage gateway filtering—so updates are applied before staff log on and remote laptops and servers stay protected. The Sophos deployment now blocks large volumes of infected email and spam daily, restored normal operations after the virus outbreak, improved detection rates across the network, and is supported by 24/7 Sophos customer service.
