Cytec Specialty Chemicals Focuses on Increased New Product Revenues and Profits with Accolade® System

Cytec Specialty Chemicals (CSC), a $2.4 billion division of Cytec Industries headquartered in Brussels, faced the challenge of integrating two large business units after a 2005 merger and increasing new‑product revenues and profits to meet aggressive growth targets. To standardize and scale its Stage‑Gate innovation processes across R&D, marketing and technical services, Cytec selected Sopheon and its Accolade innovation process management system.

Sopheon implemented Accolade to automate CSC’s revised Stage‑Gate workflows and provide a central repository, portfolio reporting and “smart templates” for real‑time status and gate deliverables; the global rollout to ~500 users across eight locations was completed on time and on budget in six months. The Sopheon solution shortened gate decisions to about 15 minutes per project, drove high user adoption and satisfaction, focused R&D on strategically aligned projects (stopping over 50 of ~300 active projects in the first half of 2007), and improved prioritization and returns on Cytec’s innovation investments.
