Case Study: BASF achieves enterprise-wide innovation process standardization with Sopheon’s Accolade®

A Sopheon Case Study

Preview of the BASF Case Study

BASF Enables Enterprise-Wide Standardization of Innovation Process with Sopheon’s Accolade®

BASF, the world’s largest chemical company with nearly $62 billion in 2009 revenues and 385 production facilities, needed to boost revenues from new products but was hampered by each division using its own product innovation process, creating limited transparency and high complexity. To standardize its phase‑gate innovation process enterprise‑wide, BASF selected Sopheon and its Accolade® solution to automate the process and support portfolio and resource planning.

Sopheon deployed Accolade across marketing, R&D, sales, finance and operations, rolling the solution out to 5,100 users at 250 sites and using it to track 3,300 R&D activities worldwide. The implementation has given BASF a common language and standardized metrics, transparent decision‑making up to Board level, earlier termination of low‑potential projects, and integration with capital and operational planning—ensuring resources focus on the most promising opportunities.
