Utility cooperative turns on security, drives wireless

National Information Solutions Cooperative (NISC), a U.S. utility cooperative and technical service provider for hundreds of rural electric and telecommunications co-ops, needed to ensure members had safe, reliable access to mission‑critical applications and resources from anywhere. To address secure remote access and mobility requirements, NISC turned to SonicWall and its security and wireless portfolio, including the NSA and TZ Series firewalls, SonicPoint wireless access points, GMS management and Mobile Connect.

SonicWall deployed more than 600 NSA and TZ Series firewalls at member sites, centrally managed with SonicWall GMS, secured cloud applications in the data center with NSA firewalls, and enabled remote/mobile connectivity with SonicWall wireless security and Mobile Connect. The deployment simplified administration, lowered costs, and improved access management; NISC reports a 40% time savings for IT staff through standardization, centralized licensing/support for 600 firewalls, and boosted remote-worker productivity by deploying over 100 SonicPoint access points.
