A SonicWall Case Study
Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (Amsterdam Public Library), a major public library with a 28,000 m² central building, 180,000+ members and millions of annual visitors, faced rapidly growing Wi‑Fi demand from smartphones, tablets and laptops and needed faster, more scalable security plus simpler network segmentation and management. To address this, the library selected SonicWall and deployed two SonicWall NSA 6600 next‑generation firewalls with the Comprehensive Gateway Security Suite.
SonicWall implemented the NSA 6600s in an Active/Passive high‑availability configuration, enabling full concurrent use of intrusion prevention, anti‑malware, application control, VPN and content filtering while allowing easy zone‑based segmentation and management. The deployment delivered secure, reliable, anytime/anywhere internet access, supported up to 1,500 concurrent users (managing ~1,000 PCs, 200 fixed devices and ~500 mobile devices), enabled live event broadcasts without disruption, reduced total cost of ownership through HA licensing, and provided enterprise performance (3 Gbps DPI and up to 6,000 VPN tunnels) — outcomes the library credits to SonicWall.
