A SonicWall Case Study
iPower, a SonicWall Premier Partner, discovered a hidden variant of the Conficker worm on law-enforcement body cameras during routine testing. The challenge was that new IoT devices—even straight out of the box—could introduce malware via USB, potentially spreading across the LAN and exposing officers’ locations through GPS-capable cameras.
Using SonicWall next-generation firewalls and support from SonicWall Threat Research, iPower quarantined the infected devices and the firewall blocked the worm’s lateral movement and communications with command-and-control servers, containing the incident to the local device. SonicWall’s deep packet inspection and encrypted-traffic inspection generated real-time alerts and prevented network compromise, stopping potential data exfiltration and operational impact before any damage occurred.
