CMIT Solutions of Metrolina Mitigates Cyberattack with SonicWall Capture Client

CMIT Solutions, a North American MSSP supporting hundreds of SMBs, faced a growing ransomware threat and needed centralized endpoint protection and reporting for its managed customers. To harden defenses, CMIT Solutions deployed SonicWall solutions across sites—including SonicWall TZ Series NGFWs, remote access appliances and SonicWall Capture Client endpoint protection—to address rapid, behavior-based attacks and improve incident response.

When a May 2021 ransomware campaign launched 4,021 attack attempts against 162 endpoints and servers, SonicWall Capture Client detected and killed the malware (including Win32/Teerac and HackTool.Win32.LAZAGNE.AC), stopped lateral movement, and allowed CMIT Solutions to isolate machines and drop VPN tunnels; as a result no endpoints were encrypted and the attack was contained within the 41‑minute incident window. SonicWall’s Capture Client plus the broader SonicWall stack delivered measurable impact by preventing data loss, removing active threats, and enabling rapid recovery.
