A SonicWall Case Study

Preview of the City of Alexandria Case Study

City of Alexandria decreases spam by 95 percent

The City of Alexandria, a local government with about 900 employees, was inundated with spam—more than 90% of inbound email—and found its previous Barracuda appliance slow and difficult to manage. Seeking a more effective and easy-to-use email security solution, the city evaluated and selected SonicWall and its Email Security offering (SonicWall ESA 3300, ESA 4300 and the Email Security Virtual Appliance).

SonicWall deployed its Email Security appliances and virtual appliance—integrated with the city’s existing SonicWall NSA and Aventail SRA infrastructure—and leveraged the SonicWall GRID threat‑intelligence network. The result was a 95% reduction in spam reaching user mailboxes, simplified administration with user‑managed junk boxes, and significant cost savings (about $30,000 up front and roughly $15,000 annually).
