Major Japanese University Upgrades Security Infrastructure with SonicWall’s Next-Gen Solutions

Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, The University of Tokyo, needed to replace a redundant unified threat management (UTM) system ahead of a license renewal while maintaining performance and minimizing changes to its network. After evaluating options, the school selected SonicWall and its UTM solution (SonicWall NSsp Series) to match throughput and functionality without disrupting existing operations.

SonicWall implemented the NSsp Series in a high-availability (HA) redundant configuration to support roughly 2,160 users, simplifying the network and keeping services uninterrupted during the transition. SonicWall’s Japanese-speaking support resolved issues quickly, and the HA standby unit required no additional licensing—resulting in measurable cost savings, reduced operational burden, and maintained security levels.
