A Sonicu Case Study
Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital and Medical Center, an 84-bed Level IV NICU in California, struggled for years with excessive noise that was difficult to measure and manage. The problem affected premature infants, staff, parents, and visitors, and became more visible as the hospital sought to improve patient satisfaction and protect vulnerable newborns. Sonicu helped the hospital address this challenge with a sound monitoring approach designed for the NICU.
Sonicu installed more than 60 wireless Sound Indicating Meters (SIMs) connected to its cloud-based SoniCloud platform through a cellular gateway, giving staff 24/7 access to real-time sound data and weekly email reports. The system provided unbiased feedback and visible light indicators that helped change behavior across the unit, leading to significant improvements almost immediately. According to the hospital, the NICU became noticeably quieter, staff and parents responded positively, and the success was strong enough to expand Sonicu installations to other areas of the hospital.
