Healthcare sound monitoring for Improved HCAHPS scores

United Regional Health Care System, an award-winning hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas, wanted to reduce noise levels across its nursing units to improve the patient experience and HCAHPS scores. After measuring sound at all nursing stations, the team found one area with a sustained mean level of 70 dB and made it the top priority, working with Sonicu and its healthcare sound monitoring solution.

Sonicu installed five LED Sound Indicating Meters in the target corridor and used its cloud-based monitoring platform and Sound Target Achievement Reports to track sound levels for two weeks. The system led to a 19 dB reduction in just two weeks, and over 215 days the hospital recorded a 26 dB drop in noise levels overall, with staff crediting Sonicu for the majority of the improvement.
