Kraken Robotics supports two-year autonomous ocean trials with Sonardyne

The customer, Kraken Robotics, was part of a collaborative project needing to demonstrate how large-scale offshore survey missions could be achieved by coordinating a fleet of autonomous marine robots, moving beyond the limitations of individual vehicles. The vendor, Sonardyne, provided its acoustic communications technology for the project.

Sonardyne implemented a solution using its AvTrak 6 Nano acoustic transceivers fitted to autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and an HPT 3000 transceiver with Ranger-2 software on an uncrewed surface vessel. This enabled inter-medium communications, simultaneous USBL tracking, and robust telemetry for AUV-to-vessel and AUV-to-AUV communications. The trials successfully showcased coordinated missions managed from a remote shore-based facility, introducing innovations in AI-driven mission planning and fleet coordination. The approach is strategically tailored to offer new operating paradigms and substantial long-term cost savings for the offshore wind sector.
