A Sonardyne Case Study
Dana Petroleum faced the challenge of monitoring its suspended Van Ghent and Van Nes subsea wells in the North Sea after losing communication links with the sensors. As this was an abandonment expenditure, a cost-effective solution was critical, and they needed a new monitoring system in place within just 12 weeks. They approached vendor Sonardyne for a solution.
Sonardyne provided a timely and cost-efficient solution by creating a semi-custom system based on its off-the-shelf Autonomous Monitoring Transponder (AMT). The solution utilized a small crew transfer vessel equipped with a portable topside to wirelessly harvest data, eliminating the need for new cable infrastructure. This approach provided significant cost savings and dramatically reduced the carbon footprint of the monitoring schedule, with the entire system delivered and proven within the challenging timeframe.
