UMC Standardizes on Solution-Soft’s gdzip TM & mezip TM to support all in-house & mask-shop partners

UMC, a leading global semiconductor foundry, faced growing bandwidth, storage and backup bottlenecks as increasingly large GDSII and MEBES design files (often tens of GB) and aggressive OPC pushed file sizes higher. To address slow transfers and an 8-hour backup window at risk, UMC turned to Solution-Soft’s gdzip and mezip compression technology.

Solution-Soft implemented gdzip and mezip across UMC and its mask-shop partners, standardizing file compression for GDSII and MEBES workloads. The compressors reduced files on average three times smaller than gzip, making transfers roughly three times faster, dramatically cutting storage needs and allowing daily backups to complete within the required window, delivering significant operational and cost savings.
