Tufts Health Plan, the country’s 12th largest HMO with over 937,000 members, faced chronic disk-space shortages on an HP3000 production system and relied on time-consuming tape restores for test and static data. To solve this, they engaged Solution-Soft and deployed SafeCapacity to manage on-line storage, automated migration, and compression.

Solution-Soft’s SafeCapacity kept static databases on-line, used policy-driven compression and automatic migration to eliminate out-of-disk-space events, and enabled faster disk-to-disk restores without changing file attributes. The implementation recovered 450 million sectors of disk capacity, avoided moving files to tape, improved responsiveness to application teams, and produced roughly $45,000 in annual savings.
