Time Machine® Reduces Hardware and Administration Costs

Envision Utility Software Corporation, a developer of billing software for the utility industry, faced rising hardware and administrative costs and limited testing capacity because QA needed to change system date/time for individual databases. Using Solution-Soft’s Time Machine product, Envision sought a way to isolate database time contexts so testers could run multiple time-sensitive billing cycles without involving DBAs or breaking Windows 2000/Kerberos authentication.

Solution-Soft implemented Time Machine sessions for each database service so each database runs in its own “time bubble,” letting testers change dates/times per database across the network without affecting others. The change tripled server consolidation (reducing required servers threefold), increased databases per server from 2–3 to as many as 12, cut administrative overhead, and expanded testing cycles and flexibility for Envision’s QA team.
