Case Study: Covered California achieves faster, more reliable Obamacare enrollment testing and saves weeks with Solution-Soft's Time Machine

Time Machine® helps to streamline State’s Health Insurance Exchange (a.k.a. Obamacare) Project

Covered California, the state's health insurance exchange, needed to validate time-based enrollment processes, policy and rate changes, regression updates and batch notices across past, present and future dates. Their Microsoft Active Directory environment and Kerberos authentication prevented simple clock changes and circumventing AD caused domain/SSL problems, while changing server clocks risked OS and database instability—creating a severe testing bottleneck. They engaged Solution-Soft and its Time Machine product to solve these challenges.

Solution-Soft deployed Time Machine to provide transparent “time travel” for applications—applications see a virtual clock while Active Directory continues to see the real system time—without any code changes. Time Machine was up and running in about 15 minutes and, according to the project team, saved weeks of regression testing and development costs by enabling efficient what-if, regression and compliance testing on the same VMs while avoiding system restores and simplifying the test strategy.
