Photronics, a leading supplier of reticles and photomasks for the semiconductor industry, faced growing problems moving very large design files reliably and quickly between design houses, mask shops, foundries and customers. They needed to improve bi-directional FTP throughput and reliability without re-engineering existing applications or abandoning FTP, and engaged Solution-Soft to address the issue with its SafeVelocity product.

Solution-Soft replaced Photronics’ traditional FTP daemon with SafeVelocity, using adaptive transfer techniques, on-the-fly compression, guaranteed-transfer mode and session-close callouts to preserve automation. The deployment moved a 232 GB uncompressed GDS set in 20 hours (vs. an estimated 25+ hours including TAR/GZIP and reprocessing), restarted automatically through network issues, eliminated manual retransmits and FTP maintenance, produced more than 15 hours saved for that transfer and delivered immediate ROI.
