Sunoco, a major petroleum company, sought to upgrade its credit card center's print operations by replacing old Xerox printers with a modern Xerox DocuTech 6100. The challenge was that their legacy mainframe applications used the LCDS print stream, which was incompatible with the new PostScript printers. Reprogramming all the applications was too costly. They needed a solution that would enable the new network printers without modifying their existing applications.

Solimar Systems implemented their Solimar Print/Director system. This solution seamlessly received the legacy LCDS data from the mainframe and used its XCHANGE::PostScript module to convert it for printing on the new PostScript devices over TCP/IP. The results were significant, saving Sunoco thousands of dollars per year in labor costs by streamlining workflows and enabling easy reprints. The Solimar system provided the needed flexibility without the expense and disruption of redeveloping their core applications.
