Solimar® Print/Director Decreases Document Distribution Costs and Turnaround Time

The City of Portland Water Bureau faced significant operational inefficiencies due to a centralized mainframe printing system. Print jobs were bottlenecked at a single, often unavailable printer, forcing staff to manually sort and physically distribute documents, which led to delays and high costs. The utility partnered with Solimar Systems to implement the Solimar Print/Director system to automate and streamline its output management.

Solimar Systems' solution enabled the Water Bureau to convert and route mainframe Xerox Metacode data to PostScript printers across its network, facilitating decentralized printing. The results were greatly increased efficiency: employee productivity rose as they received their documents faster, and labor costs were dramatically reduced by eliminating manual distribution. Solimar's technology allowed the Bureau to offload printing to remote devices, cutting delivery times and distribution expenses while freeing data processing staff to focus on their core work.
