Wright Grid Continues to Connect the Globe by Harnessing the Power of the Sun

Wright Grid, a Boston startup, developed the solar-powered Model Z to give people an independent way to charge phones and access Wi‑Fi. Facing the challenge of designing a rugged, renewable kiosk that can work in remote, low-power markets (for example Sub‑Saharan Africa, where many users only have 3G), Wright Grid used SolidWorks to accelerate and refine its product development.

By using SolidWorks software and the SolidWorks Entrepreneur Program to design, simulate and manage their product data, Wright Grid brought the Model Z to market and proved the station’s success in the United States. SolidWorks’ 3D tools helped shorten development time and lower costs, enabling a scalable, pay-per-charge and Wi‑Fi solution with measurable impact on connectivity and power access in underserved regions.
