Thunder Scientific - Customer Case Study

Thunder Scientific engineer David Furry entered the SolidWorks xDesign challenge to solve a practical accessibility problem: there were no convenient storage containers attached to laptops or iPads, making it harder for users with mobility issues to keep pens and pads within reach. Working for Thunder Scientific, he used SolidWorks’ xDesign to conceptualize a small, attachable storage module sized to fit a third‑party keyboard case.

Using SolidWorks xDesign he produced a press‑fit, modular container that can join with dovetail joints for larger devices and be exported as SLDXML or STL for import into desktop SolidWorks and rapid prototyping. The SolidWorks workflow enabled easy collaboration from any device, simplified file exchange and 3D printing, and delivered a tangible design that improves accessibility and streamlines team collaboration.
