Teversham Engineering’s Project to Rebuild the First Computer

Teversham Engineering in the United Kingdom set out to build an authentic replica of the Electronic Delay Storage Automatic Calculator (EDSAC), one of the earliest British digital computers originally designed in 1947. To reproduce the historic machine from a single surviving chassis they needed to capture original dimensions, remodel complex assemblies and validate the visual appearance against archival photographs — work carried out using SolidWorks and SolidWorks eDrawings.

Teversham used SolidWorks to record dimensions, create detailed 3D models and drive the production of the replica, while SolidWorks eDrawings gave volunteers instant, email-enabled access to dynamic models they could rotate, zoom and annotate for quick sign-off. SolidWorks’ tools enabled accurate visual matching to original photos, streamlined collaboration among volunteers and accelerated approval workflows, producing a build-ready digital model used to produce the physical EDSAC replica.
