Ultimaker B.V., a Dutch 3D printer manufacturer that grew out of the maker community, needed to streamline development and expand its product line beyond its original kit-based offering. To modernize design, validation, and data management workflows, Ultimaker B.V. adopted SolidWorks design tools along with SolidWorks Simulation, SolidWorks Inspection, and SolidWorks PDM Professional.

Using SolidWorks solutions, Ultimaker B.V. accelerated product development, launching five additional printer models—growing from one to six products in three years—while cutting prototyping through simulation and improving manufacturability with sheet‑metal tools, draft analysis, and interference checking. SolidWorks also helped enhance printer aesthetics and usability via rendering and validation, delivering faster development cycles and higher‑quality, more reliable products.
