Sustaining Office Furniture Design Into the 21st Century With SolidWorks Solutions

Teknion Corporation, a global designer and manufacturer of mid- to high-end office systems, faced growing complexity from configurable product lines, slow 2D workflows, and a need to incorporate sustainability into design. To address these challenges the company moved from AutoCAD 2D to a 3D platform, standardizing on SolidWorks (implementing SolidWorks Professional) and later adding SolidWorks Enterprise PDM and SolidWorks Sustainability to support global design, data management, and environmental assessment.

Using SolidWorks solutions and 105 SolidWorks Professional licenses plus 50 Enterprise PDM licenses, Teknion accelerated development, quadrupled its North American product lines (from 6 to 24), reduced development time by 50%, and cut prototyping requirements in half. SolidWorks also enabled faster collaborative work across sites (managing a vault of 150,000 files), supported sales with photorealistic renders and environmental comparisons, and helped deliver innovations like the Marketplace table to market in half the usual time.
