A SolidWorks Case Study
IDEX Health & Science LLC, a division of IDEX Corp., designs and manufactures precision microfluidics components for laboratory instruments and faced the challenge of developing microscopic, high‑pressure fluidics more accurately and efficiently to boost throughput. To meet these demands, IDEX adopted SolidWorks design, simulation, routing, and product data management tools, including SolidWorks Professional, SolidWorks Premium, SolidWorks Simulation Premium, SolidWorks Flow Simulation, SolidWorks Enterprise PDM, and SolidWorks Routing.
Using SolidWorks solutions for integrated design, FEA and flow simulation, and automated tubing routing, IDEX reduced design cycles by 50%, eliminated about 90% of prototyping loops, cut six to eight weeks of tooling time (with tube fabrication reduced to roughly a week), and enabled valve performance to increase from about 500 psi to 30,000 psi. SolidWorks tools also streamlined configuration management and data access, accelerating innovation and manufacturing.
