A SolidWorks Case Study
Mann + Hummel Hydromation N.V., a leading maker of automated coolant filtration and swarf-handling systems for heavy industrial machining, faced long design cycles and the complexity of very large assemblies (5,000–10,000 parts) with many customized variants. After evaluating CAD options, the company selected SolidWorks for its large-assembly performance, configuration, sheet‑metal tools, and routing capabilities to address the need to automate variations and speed product development.
Mann + Hummel Hydromation implemented SolidWorks across 15 seats, using SolidWorks configurations, Routing, the SolidWorks API with Visual Basic to automate model creation, and PhotoWorks/eDrawings for communications. As a result, SolidWorks helped reduce design cycles by more than 30%, cut time to make design changes by about 90% (from 10–12 hours to under an hour), reduced design errors, improved quality, and enhanced sales and customer communications.
