SolidWorks Simulation Solutions Improve Drilling Machinery Yields and Lower Production Costs

Technidrill, a maker of drilling, coring and tubular products for mining and civil engineering, needed to boost yields from reverse circulation (RC) drill rods so mine operators could cut energy consumption and operating costs. To tackle this, Technidrill turned to SOLIDWORKS—using SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation and SOLIDWORKS Simulation—to analyze airflow, pressure losses and connection geometry in its drill rods.

By using SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation to optimize stabilizer shapes and airflow and validating changes with SOLIDWORKS Simulation, Technidrill reduced pressure losses at each rod connection by up to 60%, simplified stabilizer geometry, and cut manufacturing costs by moving to welded assemblies. The SOLIDWORKS-driven redesign produced measurable operational energy savings for customers, lowered production cost, and improved Technidrill’s international standing.
