A SolidWorks Case Study
Cambridge Industrial Design, a UK product design studio serving clients such as Fender, AGA, Philips and Wharfedale, was tasked with developing an innovative microchip‑activated cat flap for SureFlap. The challenge was to design and validate a mechanically reliable, marketable product quickly without the time and cost of multiple physical prototypes or expensive photography for marketing—and Cambridge turned to SolidWorks to meet those demands.
Using SolidWorks’ 3D design and simulation tools, the team performed accurate material behaviour modelling, real‑time stress tests and rapid variant iterations entirely in software, plus photorealistic renderings for marketing. SolidWorks eliminated the need for many physical prototypes and external photography, delivered a finished product ready for manufacture on a tight schedule, and produced substantial time and material cost savings while accelerating SureFlap’s time‑to‑market.
