SolidWorks Helps Roboteam Twente Tackle Robocup 2018

RoboCup 2018 featured student teams such as RoboTeam Twente from the University of Twente competing in the Small Size League, where they needed to design six ball‑kicking robots with millimetre‑level precision and a centralized AI control system. To meet tight accuracy and budget constraints—and to avoid time‑consuming physical prototyping—the team used SolidWorks (with reseller Design Solutions) for 3D design, simulation and rapid iteration.

By leveraging SolidWorks for on‑the‑fly modifications and stress‑testing, RoboTeam Twente validated designs and their centralized decision system virtually, avoiding costly prototype rebuilds and reducing planning time and expense. The outcome was a fully engineered six‑robot squad ready for RoboCup 2018’s competition, achieved with lower development risk and demonstrable savings in time and prototyping cost thanks to SolidWorks.
