Sailing Through Yacht Development and Production With Solidworks

Contest Yachts (Conyplex B.V.), a Dutch builder of premium sailing yachts, needed to accelerate design, improve quality and accuracy, and enhance visualization to eliminate fit problems and workshop rework. After evaluating several systems, they selected SolidWorks and implemented SolidWorks design and SolidWorks Premium design and analysis software (including PhotoView 360 rendering) to move from 2D AutoCAD to a 3D development platform.

Using SolidWorks, Contest Yachts cut development cycles by 50–66%, reduced production time by 25% (using the SolidNEST partner application to drive CNC nesting), and eliminated fit issues and rework by achieving one-to-one correlation between digital models and finished composite hulls. SolidWorks’ analysis and photorealistic visualization tools also improved supplier coordination and customer communication, speeding time-to-market and enhancing overall product quality.
