Revamping engineering design technology curriculum with SOLIDWORKS® Education Edition

Pennsylvania College of Technology set out to revamp its Engineering Design Technology curriculum to better prepare students for industry by moving from 2D drafting to a 3D-first approach. To meet employer demand for SolidWorks skills, the college selected SolidWorks Education Edition as the foundational 3D design platform for coursework.

Penn College deployed SolidWorks Education Edition across campus (100 lab licenses plus 100 student copies), standardized training and certification pathways (CSWA/CSWP), and integrated tools for structural, fluid flow, and kinematics analysis. The SolidWorks implementation enabled students to learn 3D parametric modeling within a year, tackle more complex capstone projects, earn industry-recognized certifications, and improve graduate marketability and speed of integration into manufacturing roles.
