A SolidWorks Case Study
InFocus Energy Services, a pioneer in mobile projection technology, needed to move off a UNIX-based I-DEAS workflow to a more modern, PC-based platform to handle increasingly complex, curvy industrial designs and to reduce costs and time-to-market. The company turned to SolidWorks for a CAD solution that could better support tighter packaging, iterative electrical/mechanical collaboration, and faster user onboarding.
SolidWorks implemented the SolidWorks Professional suite (with CircuitWorks, SolidWorks Simulation, and SolidWorks PDM) as the company standard, enabling more efficient iteration, collision checking, mold analysis, and integrated ECAD/MCAD workflows. As a result, InFocus Energy Services designed the LP120 projector entirely in SolidWorks, reduced new-user ramp-up time by 50%, cut CAD licensing and maintenance costs by 70%, realized 75% savings in hardware, and delivered a smaller, 1.98-pound product that set a new standard in mobile projection.
