A SolidWorks Case Study
IQS School of Engineering needed a simpler, more versatile 3D CAD platform to better prepare students for industry careers by spending less course time teaching multiple software packages and more on design, engineering, and production techniques. The university standardized on SolidWorks Education Edition as its primary development platform to replace a mix of AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, and CATIA and to streamline its Industrial Engineering Technology curriculum.
SolidWorks implemented the Education Edition (with 200 licenses) and integrated tools—simulation, fluid-flow and motion analysis, plastic injection simulation—and worked with SolidCAM to support manufacturing workflows. As a result, IQS reduced development time by 50–99%, cut prototyping costs by 50%, lowered design errors by 30%, and decreased manufacturing costs by 20%; additionally, 102 students sat for the CSWA exam and 96 passed, improving job-readiness.
