A SolidWorks Case Study
Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a leading science and engineering university, faced the challenge of empowering students and researchers in the nation’s first undergraduate Robotics Engineering degree to design, analyze, and build complex robotic systems across multidisciplinary teams. To support senior capstone projects, research, and community outreach, WPI adopted SolidWorks’ SOLIDWORKS Education Edition as its primary CAD and simulation tool.
SolidWorks supplied SOLIDWORKS Education Edition to enable 3D modeling, integrated motion and FEA, and visualization tools that reduced physical prototyping and accelerated design iteration. The solution helped launch WPI’s pioneering robotics degree, supported innovative projects like the WALRUS amphibious rover, produced more than 300 downloadable models for FIRST Robotics kits, and strengthened both research and student outreach efforts.
