Optimizing infrared thermography with SolidWorks Simulation thermal analysis

Kleinfeld Technical Services, Inc. (KTS), a consultancy specializing in infrared (IR) thermography, finite element analysis, and process engineering, needed a way to see beyond surface temperatures captured by IR cameras and understand subsurface thermal behavior. To address this gap, KTS adopted Dassault Systèmes’ SolidWorks tools—using SolidWorks 3D CAD together with SolidWorks Simulation Premium for heat-transfer and thermal analysis.

By integrating SolidWorks Simulation Premium with its CAD models, KTS runs transient and steady-state thermal simulations to interpret IR images, pinpoint interior heat sources, and identify the best times and locations for field thermography—reducing the need for round‑the‑clock surveys. SolidWorks-enabled analysis has made KTS’s IR services more practical, productive, and affordable, maximizing investigation efficiency and saving clients time and money while enabling accurate diagnoses from delaminated walls to buried pipes and failed boiler components.
