Landscape Forms Improves Productivity by Designing Outdoor Products With SolidWorks

Landscape Forms designs and builds outdoor site furniture and lighting for public spaces and campuses, but as its products became more complex, the company needed to speed up design cycles, improve collaboration across disciplines, and bring more optical and electrical design work in-house. The company turned to SolidWorks design software, along with related tools such as Photopia and SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation, to support product development.

With SolidWorks, Landscape Forms centralized mechanical, optical, and electrical design in one environment, improved simulation and validation, and used SOLIDWORKS PDM to manage product versions. The result was faster development: design cycles were shortened by 30 percent and time to market by 15 to 20 percent in the first decade, and since 2011 lighting design cycles improved by another 30 to 35 percent with time to market reduced by 15 to 20 percent, while furniture design cycles dropped an additional 30 percent and time to market by 20 to 25 percent.
