Case Study: Brunswick Bowling Products achieves breakthrough high-performance bowling ball cores with SOLIDWORKS

A SolidWorks Case Study

Preview of the Brunswick Bowling Products Case Study

Innovating high-performance, action bowling ball cores with SOLIDWORKS

Brunswick Bowling Products, a leading maker of bowling balls and equipment, needed to advance core R&D to deliver a wider range of ball actions for varying lane conditions. To move beyond 2D tools and get better mass properties, cavity extraction and visualization for core dynamics, the company standardized on SolidWorks Standard 3D design software (SOLIDWORKS).

Using SolidWorks, Brunswick built automated macros to map radius of gyration (RG) contours, model moment of inertia and vary core material densities to precisely tune hook timing and performance. The result was faster, more accurate core development with measurable RG-mapping capability, an expanded range of ball actions and the launch of the edgier DV8 line (models like Deviant, Ruckus and Zombie), plus improved marketing visuals via PhotoView 360.
