Case Study: Arcimoto, Inc achieves 40% vehicle weight reduction and launches first FUV with SOLIDWORKS

A SolidWorks Case Study

Preview of the Arcimoto, Inc Case Study

Innovating a new electric, fun utility vehicle (FUV) category with SOLIDWORKS® Solutions

Arcimoto, Inc partnered with SolidWorks to streamline development and production of its electric three‑wheeled Fun Utility Vehicle (FUV). Facing the challenge of improving efficiency, drivability and manufacturability while moving from low‑tech prototyping to mass producible designs, Arcimoto implemented SOLIDWORKS Professional, SOLIDWORKS Premium, SOLIDWORKS Electrical Schematics Professional, SOLIDWORKS Electrical 3D and SOLIDWORKS PDM Standard.

Using SolidWorks’ integrated mechanical, electrical, simulation and PDM tools, Arcimoto redesigned a multibody sheet‑metal chassis, improved manufacturability, and reduced vehicle weight by nearly 40% (from ~1,800 lbs to ~1,100 lbs). The result: the company brought the first FUV to market with more than 98% of the design completed in SOLIDWORKS, cutting prototyping needs, speeding design changes, and supporting a scalable path to mass production.
