A SolidWorks Case Study
Micus AB, developer of the Mobile Intensive Care Unit (MICU) stretcher, brought product design in-house in 2005 and faced the challenge of creating a lightweight, safety-compliant chassis and integrating multiple OEM medical systems while maintaining fast design revisions and secure data management. To meet these needs the company selected SolidWorks — using SolidWorks 3D CAD software and SolidWorks Enterprise PDM — for its ease of use, assembly/configuration tools, sheet-metal capabilities, and Microsoft Office compatibility.
Using SolidWorks, Micus AB implemented rapid model creation, sheet‑metal workflows for aluminum bending, large‑assembly visualization (collision detection, configurations, eDrawings) and PDM-controlled revisions, enabling integration of components from several OEMs and export of DXF for fabrication. The SolidWorks solution compressed design cycles, reduced development costs, improved product quality and design communications, and allowed the sole designer to make faster, more reliable changes while meeting aerospace and medical regulatory requirements.
