Case Study: MooBella slashes design time by 33% and development costs by 50% with SolidWorks

Innovating a fresh, made-to-order ice cream-making machine with SolidWorks Premium

MooBella, creator of a machine that makes a single serving of fresh, flavored-to-order ice cream in about 45 seconds, needed to turn an early proof-of-concept into a manufacturing-ready product while coordinating sheet-metal designers, mold-makers, and other specialists. To enable parallel development and seamless collaboration across external partners, MooBella selected SolidWorks and adopted SolidWorks Premium along with eDrawings and SolidWorks Workgroup PDM as its CAD and data-management platform.

Using SolidWorks Premium, eDrawings and PDM, MooBella and its partners developed major subsystems in parallel (refrigeration, pneumatics, consumer interface, pumping and dry-goods distribution), allowing roughly 200 collaborators to share models and iterate rapidly. The SolidWorks-based solution shortened the design cycle by at least 33%, reduced product development costs by 50%, and improved product quality and performance; MooBella also plans to use SolidWorks Simulation and mold-design tools on future models.
