A SolidWorks Case Study
Pronal Asia Manufacturing needed to ensure proper penetration and long-term performance of offshore jacket piling—specifically diaphragm closures and related elastomer components that must allow piles to sink by gravity, minimize vibration, and withstand subsea pressures. To tackle this challenge, Pronal evaluated nonlinear FEA tools and chose SolidWorks, deploying SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium (with Simulation Professional capabilities) fully integrated with its SOLIDWORKS CAD platform.
Using SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium, Pronal modeled diaphragm closure behavior (identifying that a flat‑bottom pile required ~80 tons to penetrate, then modifying the pile geometry), validated designs under 100 m hydrostatic pressure, and optimized mud wipers and grout packers. The SolidWorks solution improved product performance, pioneered nonlinear simulation for offshore piling, grew Pronal’s Asia‑Pacific offshore business by 60%, and helped customers avoid approximately $500,000 in daily offshore costs when pile hammering is prevented.
