A SolidWorks Case Study
Automatic Systems, Inc. (ASI), a developer of custom material handling systems for automotive and other industries, faced increasing complexity after moving from 2D AutoCAD to 3D design. Their in‑house document management could not handle relationships between parts, subassemblies and assemblies or manage multiple file types (Word, Excel, emails, images) and secure, shared access across five locations. To address this, ASI selected SolidWorks and implemented SolidWorks Enterprise PDM.
Using SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (200 licenses), ASI migrated its legacy data (initially >100 GB) and now manages more than 350 GB of design data with controlled revisions, vault replication to five sites, and a familiar Explorer‑style, web‑enabled interface. SolidWorks’ solution sped file searches and previews (via eDrawings), reduced revision‑control delays and file overwrites, expanded access to manufacturing, purchasing, sales and partners, and simplified implementation and upgrades—delivering measurable improvements in data integrity and cross‑site performance.
