Improving Engineer-to-order Production With Solidworks Solutions

Automatic Handling International, Inc., a global manufacturer of custom handling and packaging systems, faced slow, paper-based engineer-to-order processes that hampered efficiency, communication, and quality. To automate workflows and go paperless, the company adopted SolidWorks solutions—including SolidWorks Professional, SolidWorks Premium, SolidWorks Enterprise PDM (EPDM), SolidWorks Composer—and used the SolidWorks API to integrate design and production data.

By implementing SolidWorks 3D CAD, FEA, EPDM and Composer and linking EPDM to ERP and shop-floor terminals via the SolidWorks API, Automatic Handling moved to a model-based, paperless production system that automatically creates eDrawings, purchase orders and work orders. The SolidWorks implementation cut manufacturing release time by over 80%, eliminated printing and administrative costs, empowered machinists as part of the development team, and improved accuracy and production quality.
